Share your story

We cannot wait to discover the stories from our region, and that’s where you come in. Submitting your story is easy, but please read the following guidelines carefully to ensure you upload with ease.

Inclusion of stories on our interactive map will be revealed at the Write Around the Murray Festival on Wednesday 9th September. Access to the map will be through www.neighbourstories.com

If you have any questions or would like any further information please get in touch through our contact page.

How to submit

Step 1: THEME

The Neighbourhood’s theme for all story content is HOME

This theme can follow many paths, and we encourage you to think outside the box as to what this means to you.

To help, here are some questions you may like to start with:

  • What does home mean to you?
  • Where in Albury Wodonga do you most feel at home, and why?
  • What are the tastes and smells of home?
  • What have you left behind at a previous home?

Our top tip is to respond by following your instincts. Remember, home and the memories that come with it are different for everyone, so it’s very hard to get it wrong!

Step 2 – ARTFORM

Now you have a rough idea of what story you’d like to share, choose an artform to respond with that best tells your story.

If you’d like to learn more about how to enhance the telling of your stories through different artforms, then come along to one or all of our free workshop in film (using a smartphone), writing your story, photography (using a smartphone) and poetry.

You can find out more information on our workshops here.

Entries aren’t limited to what’s in our workshop series, we’re open to all artforms and encourage you to be creative!

If submitting without attending our workshops, please read our guidelines carefully below in regards to uploading.

Step 3 – CREATE

Now it’s time to think about how you will upload your content. Once you have chosen your story and artform it’s now time to get creative and think about how you would like to share it. You can share your story in film, writing or images but you may also choose to share it in a different medium. For example…

You may have written a story, but prefer to upload it as a film of you telling the story to camera. You may have sewn a traditional piece of clothing or drawn a picture that you would like to upload images of.

You can share your story in 3 ways:

FILM – a maximum of 4 minutes and no larger than 600 mb.

WRITTEN DOCUMENT – a maximum of 2 A4 pages. A photograph must accompany a written document, which may be an image to go alongside the story, or a photo of yourself. Please note, the image will be displayed on the map.

IMAGES – up to 4 images per story.

You will need to have permission to reproduce any of the above in print and online formats. For film submissions, by submitting them via this website you are acknowledging you are happy for us to share them publicly on The Neighbourhood’s Youtube and via our interactive project map.

Step 4 – SUBMIT

To submit your entry, you need to

a) Fill out the submission entry form

There you are asked to give a title to your story/film/image and one line to sum up the story in one sentence. This is particularly important if you are uploading images. Remember – be creative!  That can be really simple, such as: “The hills that remind me of home.”

You’ll also be asked to choose where you’d like to pin your story to our interactive map. It could be specific (e.g.  Wodonga Water Tower), or an area more broadly (e.g. the river). Think about what story you’re trying to tell and how the location fits that.

b) Upload

The next step is to submit your artwork via our Dropbox using the link below the submission form. Please save it with the full name/title that was stated in the submission entry form.
