School submissions

We cannot wait to discover the stories from our region, and that’s where your class and students comes in!

Submitting student stories is easy, but please read the following guidelines carefully to ensure you upload with ease.

Inclusion of stories on our interactive map will be revealed at the Write Around the Murray Festival on Wednesday 9th September. Access to the map will be through www.neighbourstories.com

If you have any questions or would like any further information please get in touch through our contact page.

How to involve your class

Step 1: WATCH

Watch this 3 minute video of project creators Alyson Evans and Tahni Froudist introducing the project to your class, and setting the task ahead!

Step 2: THEME

The Neighbourhood’s theme for all story content is HOME

This theme can follow many paths, and we encourage students to think outside the box as to what this means to them.

To help, here are some questions your class may like to start with:

  • What does home mean to you?
  • Where in Albury Wodonga do you most feel at home, and why?
  • What are the tastes and smells of home?

Our top tip is for students to respond by following their instincts. Home and the thoughts that come with it are different for everyone, so it’s very hard to get it wrong!

Step 3: ARTFORM

Now students have a rough idea of what story they’d like to share, the next step is to choose, as a class, an artform that best tells your students stories.

Your class’ chosen artform may be

  • A written story (max 1 A4 page per student) and 1 image
  • A drawing (max 1 per student)
  • A film (max. 4 minutes, 1 film per class)
  • A photograph (max 1 per student)
  • A Poem (max 1 A4 page per student)

Entries aren’t limited to what’s above, we’re open to all artforms and encourage you to be creative!

Step 4: CREATE

Once your students have chosen what they want to tell and your class has decided on an artform, it’s time to think about how you would like to create and share your work. You can share your story in film, writing or images but you may also choose to share it in a different medium. For example…

You may have written stories, but prefer to upload it as a film of your students telling their story to camera. Students may have drawn pictures that you would like to upload images of.

You can share your story in 3 ways:

FILM – 1 per class. A maximum of 4 minutes and no larger than 600 mb.

WRITTEN DOCUMENT – a maximum of 1 A4 page per student. A photograph/drawing must accompany a written document, which may be an image to go alongside the story.

IMAGES – 1 image per story.

You will need to have permission to reproduce any of the above in print and online formats. For film submissions, by submitting them via this website you are acknowledging you are happy for us to share them publicly on The Neighbourhood’s Youtube and via our interactive project map.

Step 5: SUBMIT

To submit your entry, you need to

a) Fill out the submission entry form

There you are asked to give a title to your story/film/image and one line to sum up the story in one sentence. This is particularly important if you are uploading images. Remember – be creative!  That can be really simple, such as: “The hills that remind me us home.”

Your stories will be pinned on the map at the location of your school.

b) Upload

The next step is to submit your stories via our Dropbox using the link below the submission form. Please save it with the school name that was stated in the submission entry form.
